Free pattern of the month: April

Striped Mug Hug

Yarn: ewe ewe wooly worsted washable merino , color numbers 80, 10, 50 + 90

Needles: US size 7, 40″ circular (for magic loop method) or double points if you prefer

With color number 80 (purple) cast on 33 sts and join in the round.

For magic loop 16 sts + 17 sts, for double points 3 x 11

Round 1: *p1, k2, repeat from * to end of round

Round 2: * p1, k2twisted, repeat from * to end of round

Repeat rounds 1 and 2 two more times.

Next round knit.

Switch to color number 10 (berry pink) and knit 1 round.

Slip first stitch of next round as to purl, knit rest of round and 3 more rounds. (This will avoid the “jogg or step” when changing colors in the round. I like to know why a pattern makes me do certain things, you too?)

Switch to color number 50 (pistachio green) and knit 1 round.

Slip first stitch of next round as to purl, knit rest of round and 2 more rounds.

Switch to color 90 (vanilla) and knit 1 round.

Slip first stitch of next round as to purl, knit rest of round and 1 more round.

Switch to color 50 (pistachio green) and knit 1 round.

Slip first stitch of next round as to purl, knit rest of round and 2 more rounds.

Switch to color 10 (berry pink) and knit 1 round.

Slip first stitch of next round as to purl, knit rest of round and 3 more rounds.

Switch to color 80 (purple) and knit one round.

Slip first stitch of next round, then knit in seedstitch for 4 rounds =

(k1, p1) repeat – due to uneven stitch number seedstitch pattern emerges automatically, so don’t start over at the beginning of each round, just keep knitting, meaning if the round ends with a knit, then start the next round with a purl.

Bind off in pattern, weave in the ends.

Go get a cup of coffee, save a tree by not using their carton ring around the take out cup but your hand knit “Mug Hug”.

Easter Basket the second

Ok, here it is: the traveling  easter basket

While knitting it, I decided to make it without handle so I could easily mail it (because it is going over seas) and because I had only bought one skein of yarn, it would have to be not that high. Sorry, I did not take a picture, right before I tossed it in the washer to felt, but let me assure you, I wasn’t quite sure how it would turn out, so I crossed my fingers for 45 minutes and then pulled it out. After pulling it in shape a little and stuffing it with kleenex so it can dry, I really started to like it. I am off to buy tissue paper and will be back later with pictures.

Here they are:

Easter Basket

I am making a felted Easter Basket, so far so good: I found the yarn! Lamb’s Pride worsted. Same brand I used for my “famous” yarn bowl.

Different color of course. Getting curious? Check back in 3 days to see what I made or to read about how it all went wrong!
